East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar, opened the Batu Penggilingan II Festival at Batu Penggilingan Cultural Heritage, RT 10/907 Penggilingan, Cakung, Friday (8/23)East Jakarta Mayor Opens Grinding Stone Festival. The event initiated by Jakarta DPRD Member, Syahroni will last until Saturday (8/24) tomorrow.

We must improve the preservation of our ancestral cultural heritage

This Mayor expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the stone exhibition and cultural arts performance which was enlivened by 250 SMEs. Hopefully, it could become a routine agenda thus the cultural heritage of our ancestors does not become extinct due to age.

"We must improve the preservation of our ancestral cultural heritage. I also just found out about the Grinding Stone a year ago. This is one of our ancestral cultures that must be preserved," he expressed.

It is part of education as well as an effort to improve the wheels of the community's economy.

Jakarta DPRD Member, Syahroni added the festival itself is also a means of strengthening ties between the community and government elements.

Besides preserving culture, it could also spread infrastructure development to remote areas.

He explained the Jakarta Provincial Government's 5,000 square meter land asset, which was initially poorly managed, is now more beautiful with the urban farming area, parks, and the Batu Penggilingan cultural heritage.

"Hopefully, the Batu Penggilingan cultural heritage will be useful for the community," he explained.

Penggilingan Urban Village Head, Gunawan explained that in his zone, there were originally seven Millstones. However, there is only one that is still intact and original and is installed in the cultural heritage area of ​​the RW 07 community hall. This milling stone is an ancestral heritage that was made in 1896.

"The public can see up close and take photos with the Millstone in the background," he stated.
